Nach dem Abschluss als Diplom-Mathematiker ( TU Darmstadt, 2000 ) absolvierte Prof. Ünlü seine Promotion auf dem Gebiet der Psychometrie und mathematischen Psychologie ( Mathe matik TU Graz und Psychologie Universität Graz, 2004 ).
Nach Gastprofessuren (Universität Graz) und Auslandsaufenthalten (UC Irvine und Purdue University) war er Akademischer Rat und habilitierte sich (Statistik, Universität Augsburg, 2009).
Anschließend wurde er zum Universitätsprofessor berufen (TU Dortmund, 2009).

He later assumed the position of assistant professor and acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) (Department of Statistics at the University of Augsburg, 2009).
After this he became an associate professor (TU Dortmund, 2009).
