Mit Hilfe von Positions- und Bewegungsdaten werden Ansätze zur fahrzeugautonomen sowie zentralengestützten Positionsbestimmung von Land- und Schienenfahrzeugen entwickelt und angewendet.
Neben der Sensorfusion bildet die Integration von Map-Matching und Map-Aiding Technologien unter Verwendung anwendungsspezifischer digitaler Karten eine Kernaufgabe bei der Positionsbestimmung bewegter Objekte.
Das Institut beschäftigt sich außerdem intensiv mit der Erfassung und Modellierung digitaler Karten, insbesondere digitaler Straßenkarten.
