Der 93 Jahre alte Dorfälteste Datu Mara Buan brachte seinem Dorf auf den Philippinen durch umweltschonenden Kaffeeanbau ungeahnten Wohlstand und Schutz für eine bedrohte Tierart.
Denn die dort lebende Zibetkatze, eine Schleichkatzenart, frisst die angebauten Kaffeekirschen und produziert eine der weltweit teuersten und bei Gourmets begehrten Kaffeespezialitäten.
Im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung gab der GIZ-Entwicklungsdienst den 190 beteiligten Kaffeefarmern praktische Starthilfe.
