Bedingt durch die hohe industrie- und verkehrsbedingte Bodenunruhe in Jena wurde nach einem anderen, außerhalb der Stadt gelegenen Stationsort gesucht.
Nach geologischen Gesichtspunkten und Prüfungen der Bodenunruhe wurde 1956 vom Akademiemitglied Fritz DEUBEL ein Baugelände südlich von Pößneck nahe der Ortschaft Moxa empfohlen.
