Im ersten Kapitel beabsichtigen wir, uns mit der Frage des Monotheismus auseinanderzusetzen und diese Frage in Bezug darauf zu erörtern, wie gerade er in einigen Ansätzen der gegenwärtigen politischen Philosophie verstanden wird.
Wir sind uns bewusst, dass das sehr ausdifferenziertes Spektrum theoretischen Ansätzen von der klassischen Position des so genannten humanistischen Atheismus bis zu den jüngeren Phänomenen des religiösen Agnostizismus und des politischen Laizismus reicht.
Unsere Überlegungen möchten vor allem klarstellen, dass der Begriff des Monotheismus, nicht ohne Bedeutung für unsere Kulturgeschichte, noch viel zu unbestimmt istt, wenn er als Gleichheitsbegriff der geschichtlichen Religionen benutzt wird, die die Einheit Gottes bekennen (nämlich Judentum, Islam und Christentum).

We are aware of the evolution that has resulted in a highly differentiated spectrum of theoretical positions nowadays, ranging from the classical background of so called humanistic atheism to more recent forms of religious agnosticism and political laicism.
Our reflection seeks first of all to show that the notion of monotheism, which is certainly significant in the history of our culture, is nevertheless too generic when it is used as an indication of equivalence between the historical religions which confess the oneness of God (namely Judaism, Islam and Christianity).
