www.pyrgus.deDieses Hochmoor ist nicht etwa ein hoch in den Bergen gelegenes Moor, wie man dem Namen nach vermuten könnte, sondern ein einzigartiger, lediglich durch Regen gespiesener Lebensraum in saurer Umgebung, der eigentlich nur ganz wenigen Pflanzen und Tieren als Lebensgrundlage zur Verfügung steht.
Es handelt sich um eine durch das Torfmoos Sphagnum über Jahrtausende gebildete Torfdecke, die sich normalerweise über die übrige Landschaft erhebt und sich aus einem Flachmoor, über den sogenannten Bruchwald langsam zu einem Hochmoor heranbildet.
