In der Sammlung werden Einzelwerke, Serien, Zyklen sowie fotografische Objekte und Dokumente von 300 österreichischen Fotografen der unterschiedlichsten Stile und Tendenzen betreut.
Der Sammlungsbestand konzentriert sich auf die Zeit seit den 1950er und 1960er Jahren, von reiner straight photography über Fotografie des Aktionismus und Fotografie im Kunstkontext bis zur avancierten Bildtechnologie einer neuen Computergeneration.
Bedeutende Dokumente des Wiener Aktionismus stellen die Vintage Prints, aber auch die späteren Editionen von Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch und Rudolf Schwarzkogler dar.
