Die Gründung der Fakultät Gestaltung im Herbst 1993 durch Lucius Burckhardt ist als konsequentes Resultat von Überlegungen und Konzepten zur kreativen Praxis und deren Vermittlung zu sehen.
Gerade in Weimar, der Hauptstadt deutscher Klassik, wurden neben der Bewahrung etablierten Kulturgutes auch neue Formen des Kunstunterrichts propagiert, als deren herausragendste und innovativste Form das Bauhaus in Erscheinung trat.
80 Jahre nach Errichtung dieser weltberühmten Institution gilt es aber, im Lichte der Gegenwart die wesentlichen Unterschiede des Unterrichts anzusprechen.

However, 80 years after the establishment of this world-famous institution, in light of the present situation it seems appropriate to address the main difference in this form of teaching.

Eine Kollektion von annähernd 200 Schlag- und Friktionsinstrumenten des 17. bis 20. Jahrhunderts enthält z.B. 10 historische Militärtrommeln, mehrere Pauken-Paare (auch seltene Holzpauken), 10 Schellenbäume und klingende Prozessionsstangen aus dem 17. bis 20. Jahrhundert sowie zahlreiche unterschiedliche Idiophone aus dem 19./20. Jahrhundert.

There are about 250 horns and cornetts, many of which were made as early as the 16th century, numerous natural horns from the Baroque and Classical period, and different types of keyed and valved horns dating from the 19th and 20th century.
The collection of nearly 200 percussion and friction instruments dating from the 17th through the 20th century contains, among other instruments, 10 historic military drums, several timpani pairs (including rare wooden timpani), 10 crescents and ceremonial sound producing poles intended for religious precessions dating from the 17th through the 20th century, as well as numerous different idiophones from the 19th and 20th century.
