Ein Ergebnis dieser Arbeit war die Etablierung des Kleinkrebses Daphnia ( Wasserfloh ) als Modellorganismus für ökologische und ökogenomische Forschung.
Seit 2011 das Genom von Daphnia pulex veröffentlicht wurde, ist dieses Ziel erreicht.
