Die Erforschung des Verformungsverhaltens und der Schädigungsmechanismen bei monotoner und zyklischer Belastung unter Berücksichtigung mikrostruktureller Einflussgrößen und die Weiterentwicklung der Prozesstechnik zur Erzeugung von ultrafeinkörnigen Werkstoffen stehen dabei im Vordergrund aktueller Forschungsaktivitäten.
Dabei werden das sogenannte Equal Channel Angular Pressing Verfahren, die gepulste Elektrodeposition und das Accumulative Roll Bonding ( ARB ) Verfahren zur Herstellung nanokristalliner Werkstoffe erfolgreich eingesetzt.
Insbesondere das ARB‑Verfahren erlaubt es, neuartige Mehrkomponentenwerkstoffe bzw. maßgeschneiderte und gradierte ultrafeinkörnige Blechwerkstoffe herzustellen.
