Die Vergabe an die Uni Mainz basiert auf einer fast 15jährigen Zusammenarbeit zwischen IBM und Prof. Felser, einer herausragenden Expertin auf dem Gebiet des computergestützten Materialdesigns.
In ihrer Arbeitsgruppe am Institut für Anorganische Chemie und Analytische Chemie arbeiten Forscher seit 2 Jahren an der Computermodellierung von Dünnschicht-Solarzellen, um den Wirkungsgrad zu verbessern und den Anteil umweltschädlicher und seltener Elemente wie Cadmium und Indium zu verringern.
