Seit dem 1. Januar 2009 wird das TIR-Verfahren in der Gemeinschaft elektronisch durchgeführt.
Die Erledigung des TIR-Verfahrens in der Gemeinschaft ist von einer Eingangs- oder Abgangszollstelle vorzunehmen, nachdem ihr von der Bestimmungs- oder Ausgangszollstelle mitgeteilt wurde, dass das fragliche Verfahren innerhalb der von der Eingangs- oder Abgangszollstelle vorgeschriebenen Frist abgeschlossen wurde.
Wenn die für die Erledigung zuständigen Behörden nach Ablauf der Frist für die Mitteilung der Bestimmungs- oder Ausgangszollstelle, dass der Versand beendet ist, keinen Nachweis über die Beendigung des TIR-Versands erhalten, wird ein Suchverfahren eingeleitet.
