Eine Studie des Öko-Instituts im Auftrag des WWF Deutschland kommt zum Ergebnis, dass insbesondere die energieintensiven Unternehmen, deren Zuteilung das Emissionsniveau ihrer Anlagen deutlich überstieg, teilweise erhebliche Gewinne aus dem Emissionshandel erzielt haben.

As a result of the free allocation of emission allowances under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), German energy producers are able to reap several billion and German industrial companies several hundred million Euros of additional revenue in the first and second trading periods (2005-2012) of the scheme.
A study conducted by Öko-Institut on behalf of WWF Germany arrived at the conclusion that in particular the energy-intensive companies whose allocation significantly exceeded their emissions are able to accrue substantial profits on the basis of the EU ETS.

Um die Menge der EU-Emissionen wieder auf ein mit dem 2°C-Ziel verträgliches Niveau zu bringen und zugleich die Voraussetzungen für einen funktionierenden EU-Emissionshandel zu schaffen, sollten die Energie- und Klimaziele der EU für 2030 eine Lösung für den wachsenden Überschuss an Emissionszertifikaten beinhalten.
Eine neue Studie, die Ecofys im Auftrag von Greenpeace erstellte, zeigt auf, dass mit der richtigen Ausrichtung der 2030-Ziele der EU auch der Überschuss an Zertifikaten aufgefangen werden könnte, der sich bis 2020 noch ansammeln wird.

In order to get the EU emissions back on track for the 2°C goal, and to allow for a fully effective EU ETS, it is vital for the EU 2030 targets to tackle the large surplus of emissions allowances accumulating in the system.
A new report prepared by Ecofys and commissioned by Greenpeace finds that the EU 2030 targets can be set in a way to also accommodate the surplus expected until 2020.
