In den 70er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts untersuchte Prof. Dilling von der Psychiatrischen Universitätsklinik in München eine große repräsentative Stichprobe von Bewohnern der Orte Traunstein, Traunreut und Palling im Landkreis Traunstein.
Anfang der 80er Jahre führte Prof. Fichter (ebenfalls Psychiatrischen Universitätsklinik in München) im Rahmen des SFB116 in derselben Region eine erneute epidemiologische Querschnittsuntersuchung mit deutlich ausführlicheren Interviews durch und untersuchte auch die von Dilling gezogene Stichprobe im Verlauf (5 Jahre).
