In the light of this dramatic loss the question arises whether a biologically deprived biosphere will continue to provide the ecosystem goods and services required by a growing human population.
The global relevance of the problem is underlined by the Millenium Ecosystem Assessment 2005 of the United Nations and the establishment of the Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in 2010 .
The research focus integrates the partners of the University Alliance Halle-Wittenberg, Jena, and Leipzig as well as eight non-university research institutes.
www.zv.uni-leipzig.deAngesichts dieses Ausmaßes der Biodiversitätsvernichtung stellt sich die Frage, ob die Biosphäre die ökologischen Funktionen und Dienstleistungen, die wir Menschen in Anspruch nehmen, in Zukunft noch bereitstellen kann.
Die globale Relevanz dieser Fragestellung wurde mit dem Millennium Ecosystem Assessment 2005 der Vereinten Nationen und der Einrichtung des Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services 2010 unterstrichen.
