Hauptschwerpunkt des Instituts bei den erwähnten Methoden ist die Weiterentwicklung der Feldmessverfahren, von Methoden der Datenauswertung und Datendarstellung.
Hier liegt selbst bei geophysikalischen Methoden mit bereits lange vorhandenem Instrumentarium ein beträchtlicher Handlungsbedarf, da der Übergang vom Labor zur Feldmessung bei den Instrumenten und von der Programmentwicklung zur Feldanwendung von Software in den meisten Fällen alles andere als einfach oder naheliegend ist.
