Map South Sudan
GIZ has been engaged in road building in South Sudan on behalf of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) since 2004.
Following the conclusion of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005, GIZ, in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has assisted more than 100,000 refugees to return home from neighbouring countries and rebuild their villages and their livelihoods.

Including the German share of EU contributions to the WFP, Germany ’ s 2012 contribution amounted to 150 million US $, making it the sixth biggest donor.
