s largest particle accelerator, which was collected by the ATLAS and CMS experiments between April and mid-June.

The researchers had managed a spectacular discovery: a particle with a mass of 125 GeV / c². GeV stands for " gigaelectronvolts " - or a billion electronvolts - and GeV / c² is a unit of mass used in elementary particle physics.

To achieve this result, the researchers developed a new approach based on a special technique that allows millions of RNA molecules in the cell to be deciphered in parallel.

The discovery of more than 60 different sRNAs in Helicobacter was a big surprise to the science world as it had previously been assumed that this bacterium did not possess any regulatory RNAs.

What is more, with the help of its new approach, the research group was able to map all the gene start points in the Helicobacter genome for the very first time (Sharma et al., 2010, Nature).

Dr. Andreas Cesana.

a description of the current universe and its history over billions of years, supported by observation.

Combined with the discoveries of elementary particle physics, his view offers a consistent picture of the universe from a point in time one millionth of one millionth of a second after the Big Bang up to the present day.

"In his series of lectures in the summer semester 2014, Professor Christof Wetterich will address fundamental issues such as the origin and evolution of the universe and the meaning of space and time," said Professor Andreas Cesana, chairman of the Johannes Gutenberg Endowed Professorship foundation.

Medizin 1964

Medicine 1964

Feodor Lynen (1911–1979) received the Nobel Prize in Medicine together with Konrad Bloch (1912–2000) for their discoveries concerning the mechanism and regulation of cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism.

Lynen remained faithful to LMU where he was professor ordinarius from 1953 until his retirement in 1979, even turning down a call from Harvard University.
