Die Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker hat in den letzten zwei Jahren drei neue Konzertflügel angeschafft. Daher entstand gemeinsam mit Alfred Brendel die Idee, den Flügel zu versteigern – zu Gunsten von UNICEF.
Die Versteigerung fand im Rahmen des Tags der offenen Tür am Pfingstmontag, 28. Mai 2012, im großen Saal der Philharmonie in Anwesenheit von Alfred Brendel, Sir Simon Rattle und den Berliner Philharmonikern statt.

When Abdel Rahman El Bacha chose a new C. Bechstein D 282 concert grand, he followed in Artur Schnabel’s footsteps, who became the first pianist ever to record Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas between 1932 and 1935 on the Bechstein at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
