Beginning of the construction of the Palace Philippsfreude as a replacement for Ottenstein Castle built between 1402 and 1424. In the course of secularisation the palace was sold at auction in 1804 and demolished in 1806. A cattle market is established at its location.

Ursprünglich war der Platz um 1700 ein Viehmarkt, später kamen ein Wollmarkt und ein Exerzierplatz hinzu.
Erst im 19.Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich der Alexanderplatz vom Handelplatz zu einem zentralen Verkehrsknotenpunkt, vor allem als 1882 auf dem Gelände ein Fernbahnhof für die Berliner Stadtbahn aus dem Boden gestampft wurde.
