Bereits vor der Aufgabe des Standortes 2001 wurde seitens des Chemnitzer Stadtrates der Grundsatzbeschluss gefasst, die Volkshochschule, die Stadtbibliothek und das Naturkundemuseum in der frei werdenden Immobilie unterzubringen.
Die Dominanz öffentlicher Einrichtungen im Nachnutzungskonzept ergab sich aus dem länger bekannten Handlungsbedarf, die Stadtbibliothek und Volkshochschule in einem angemessenen baulichen Rahmen einzuordnen.
Des Weiteren entschloss sich auch der Verein ?Neue Chemnitzer Kunsthütte e.V.? mit der Neuen Sächsischen Galerie in DAStietz umzuziehen.
