Omphalosaurus war ein im Meer lebendes Reptil und wahrscheinlich ein Vorfahre der Fischsaurier, die auch Ichthyosaurier genannt werden.
Omphalosaurus lebte in der Zeit der Mittleren Trias, vor knapp 240 Millionen Jahren, und somit gut 10 Millionen Jahre vor den ersten Dinosauriern.

It lived during Middle Triassic times, about 240 million years ago and consequently almost 10 million years before the first dinosaurs.
www.geosammlung.uni-bremen.deDie Körperform sowie der starke, thunfischähnliche Schwanz lassen vermuten, dass es sich bei Cladoselache um einen kraftvollen Schwimmer handelte, doch die relativ kleinen Brust- und Rückenflossen dürften nur eine eingeschränkte Beweglichkeit ermöglicht haben.
Da zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon weitaus größere Räuber, wie z.B. Fischsaurier die Meere durchstreiften, ist es nicht unwahrscheinlich, dass Cladoselache selbst oft gejagt wurde.

www.sharkproject.orgThe shape of their bodies and the strong, tuna-like tail suggest that cladoselache was a strong swimmer, but the relatively small pectoral and dorsal fins would have enabled only low manoeuvrability.
Since much larger predators, such as ichthyosaurs, were living in the seas, it is not unlikely that cladoselache was also often pursued itself.
