MDA, definiert und unterstützt von der OMG (Object Management Group), definiert einen Ansatz für IT-System-Spezifikationen, die die Spezifikation der Systemfunktionalität von der Spezifikation der jeweiligen Implementation dieser Funktionalitäten auf einer entsprechenden Plattform trennt.
Dieser Ansatz legt den Schwerpunkt auf Modelle, die einen höheren Grad an Abstraktion während der Entwicklung bieten und ermöglicht das Entkoppeln von plattformunabhängigen Modellen (Platform-Independent Models, PIM) und plattformspezifischen Modellen (Platform-Specific Models, PSM).

MDA, defined and supported by the OMG (Object Management Group), defines an approach to IT system specification that separates the specification of system functionalities from the specification of the implementation of these functionalities on a particular technological platform.
This approach places the emphasis on models, provides a higher level of abstraction during development, and enables significant decoupling between platform-independent models (PIM) and platform-specific models (PSM).
