Die Aufstellung des grenzüberschreitenden Raumordnungsplans Rhein-Neckar war nach dem Staatsvertrag von 1969 die wichtigste Aufgabe des Raumordnungsverbandes Rhein-Neckar.
Der Raumordnungsplan selbst ist das Produkt des einheitlichen regionalpolitischen Willens für die räumliche Ent wicklung der Region.
Der erste verbindliche Raumordnungsplan war 1978 aufgestellt worden, die Fortschreibung, die bis zum Inkrafttreten des „ Einheitlichen Regionalplans Rhein-Neckar 2020 “ verbindlich bleiben wird, erfolgte 1992.
