Nach einem Aufbaustudium von 1990 bis 1993 als Stipendiat am Graduiertenkolleg für Angewandte Mikroökonomie an der Freien Universität Berlin promovierte er 1996 an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und habilitierte 2003 an der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt ( Oder ) in Volkswirtschaftslehre.
Kritikos ist seit 2011 als Forschungsdirektor der Querschnittsgruppe „Entrepreneurship“ am DIW Berlin tätig; dort leitete er zuvor seit 2008 die Abteilung „Innovation, Industrie, Dienstleistung“ und war zwischen 2010 und 2011 Vizepräsident.

For a longitudinal analysis the data from the Socioeconomic Panel were used to estimate the hidden unemployed based on a concept, which was developed at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). The results do not show any significant change from hidden to open unemployment.
