Gudrun Sommer studied philosophy in Graz and Bochum, afterwards working for various festivals, e.g. the Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen and the Forum der Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin.
She conceived film programmes and exhibitions for the Duisburger Filmwoche, the Diagonale and the steirischer herbst in Graz.
