Like wine, which suddenly becomes a light and easily digested spritzer in the summer, it tends to be a diluted affair, to be consumed quickly and leaving little or no trace behind.
That being said, you can also get slightly more substantial fare in the summer, as demonstrated over the years at venues including the theatre in Litschau on Lake Herrensee, where Zeno Stanek’s play Die letzten Tage der Menschlichkeit, based loosely on Karl Kraus’s The Last Days of Mankind, and Margit Mezgolich’s adaptation of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men had provided cause for optimism, showing serious audience members that summer theatre can be entertaining without needing to dispense entirely with social criticism.
