Aber gerade weil das Christentum mehr ist als Moral, eben das Geschenk einer Freundschaft, darum trägt es in sich auch eine große moralische Kraft, deren wir angesichts der Herausforderungen unserer Zeit so sehr bedürfen.
Wenn wir mit Jesus Christus und mit seiner Kirche den Dekalog vom Sinai immer neu lesen und in seine Tiefe eindringen, dann zeigt sich eine große, gültige, bleibende Weisung.
Der Dekalog ist zunächst ein Ja zu Gott, zu einem Gott, der uns liebt und uns führt, der uns trägt und uns doch unsere Freiheit läßt, ja, sie erst zur Freiheit macht ( die ersten drei Gebote ).

If with Jesus Christ and his Church we constantly re-read the Ten Commandments of Sinai, entering into their full depth, then a great, valid and lasting teaching unfolds before us.
The Ten Commandments are first and foremost a “ yes ” to God, to a God who loves us and leads us, who carries us and yet allows us our freedom: indeed, it is he who makes our freedom real ( the first three commandments ).
