Mark Benecke ist Kriminalbiologe und einer von weltweit nur etwa zwei Dutzend Spezialisten für forensische Entomologie (Insektenkunde).
Er wurde 1970 in Rosenheim geboren und absolvierte nach dem Studium der Biologie, Zoologie und Psychologie eine kriminalistische Spezialausbildung in den USA und Kanada.

Claudio Sedivy, Doktorand in der Gruppe Angewandte Entomologie, prüft nun in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Chemiker Rafal Piskorski und dem Studenten Claude Hüsser, ob Pollen von Asterngewächsen Giftstoffe enthalten und ob die entsprechenden Bienen über besondere Stoffwechselanpassungen verfügen, damit sie den Pollen verwerten können.
Mit ihrer Forschung beschreiten die ETH-Wissenschaftler Neuland.
