In Kölleda bestand das Problem der plangleichen Kreuzung zweier Bundesstraßen im denkmalgeschützten Sanierungsgebiet.
Als optimale Lösung des ursprünglich für Fußgänger- und Fahrverkehr gleichermaßen unübersichtlichen Platzes wurde aus den verschiedenen untersuchten Varianten die Ausbildung eines Kreisverkehrs gewählt.
