Ursprünglich hatten wir die trichterförmigen Fallen dort im Westspitzbergenstrom verankert, um in etwa 300 Metern Wassertiefe herabsinkendes Material wie Algen oder Kot von Zooplankton einzufangen.
Von Anfang an aber haben wir auch viele Flohkrebse in den Fallen gefunden.
Vor allem in den Sommermonaten sind die Probenbehälter randvoll.

Laufende Untersuchungen beschäftigen sich mit der Phylogenie der Peracarida, zu denen Asseln ( Isopoda ) und Flohkrebse ( Amphipoda ) gehören.

Our current research projects include investigations of the phylogenetic position of the Peracarida ( Crustacea ), the group containing e.g. woodlice ( Isopoda ) and sand hoppers ( Amphipoda ).
