Die Besonderheit dieses Objektes besteht in seiner extrem südlichen Deklination von -40 Grad.
Nachdem wir das Objekt zuerst in einem Achtzöller gefunden haben, gelang mir seinerzeit die Sichtung in dem kleinen 2 3/8 Zoll Schiefspiegler.
Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt war NGC 1851 das südlichste Objekt, dessen ich je ansichtig werden durfte.

Vermutlich Dugongs (Dugong dugon), obwohl man den Schwanz nicht sehen kann - was bei den vielen anderen Sichtungen schon so war - und sie irgendwie sehr wie Robben ausgesehen haben.
Allerdings gibt es in diesen Breiten keine Robben, da das Wasser zu warm ist und der Lebensraum auch nicht passt.
