blog.dawanda.comNeben der Tätowierung erfolgte die Kennzeichnung auf der Kleidung im KZ Buna / Monowitz durch zwei ca. 4 cm breite und ca. 12 cm lange Stoffstreifen, die der Häftling auf der linken Brustseite der Jacke und am rechten Hosenbein auf Höhe der Hosentasche anzubringen hatte.
Die Stoffstreifen zeigten neben der Nummer einen Winkel, der den „Haftgrund“ des Häftlings angab.
Die Kombination aus Winkel und Häftlingsnummer ermöglichte der SS und auch erfahrenen Häftlingen die schnelle Einschätzung der Position eines Häftlings und damit häufig auch seiner Überlebenschancen.

The combination of triangle and prisoner number enabled the SS, as well as experienced inmates, to quickly size up a prisoner’s situation and hence frequently gauge his or her chances of survival as well.
