Seit der Entwicklung der tibetischen Schrift sind tausende Texte, ob indischen Ursprungs oder autochthon, auf tibetischem Boden niederge- schrieben und im Folgenden reproduziert und überliefert worden.
Viele Jahrhun- derte lang geschah dies hauptsächlich in Form von Manuskripten – seien es einfa- che Kopien in schwarzer Tinte auf weißem Papier oder besondere Prachteditionen, geschrieben in Gold oder anderen wertvollen Substanzen.
