Da die Schilddrüse und ihre Hormone die Amphibien-Metamorphose initiieren und regulieren eignet sich dieser komplexe biologische Regulationsprozess sehr gut, um hemmende und beschleunigende Effekte durch Chemikalien zu untersuchen.
