Im Rahmen des von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten SPP 1172 „ Synapse und Glia “ wurde ein Projekt über die Rolle von Glia für die Bildung, Aktivität und Plastizität von Synapsen entwickelt.
Von Berichten in der Literatur ausgehend, dass infolge der Entfernung von Chondroitinsulfat Proteoglykanen (CSPGs) durch das Enzym Chondroitinase ABC die Plastizität im visuellen Kortex wieder hergestellt und „fear extinction learning“ moduliert wird, haben wir damit begonnen, die funktionellen Eigenschaften von CSPGs für die Synapse zu untersuchen.
Die leitende Hypothese geht von der Annahme aus, dass die extrazelluläre Matrix einschließlich der CSPGs an der Stabilisierung der Gedächtnisspur beteiligt sind.
