Mario Tobias ( Jahrgang 1971 ) studierte zunächst Biologie mit Schwerpunktsetzung auf Angewandter Ökologie, Geoökologie und Umweltrecht.
Im Jahr 2000 promovierte er an der Technischen Universität Braunschweig mit einer populations-/agrarökologischen Freilandstudie zum Dr. rer. nat. und erwarb 2002 ein zweites Universitäts-Diplom in Wirtschaftswissenschaften.
2007 promovierte er mit einer Arbeit über Politikinnovationen im Bereich internationalen Ressourcenmanagements an der Forschungsstelle für Umweltpolitik der FU Berlin zum Dr. rer. pol.
