In ihrer (Selbst-)Porträtserie Uncanny Valley (»unheimliches Tal«) bezieht sich Susi Krautgartner explizit auf eine populäre Hypothese eines japanischen Roboteringenieurs aus den 70er-Jahren, der davon ausging, dass künstliche, menschenähnliche Figuren beim menschlichen Gegenüber eine messbare emotionale Resonanz auslösen können.
So verursache Menschenähnlichkeit, wenn diese nicht zu perfekt sei, grundsätzlich Empathie.

In her »(self-) portrait« series Uncanny Valley the artist refers explicitly to the popular hypothesis of a Japanese robot engineer from the 1970s, who assumed that artistic, human-like figures can trigger a measurable emotional resonance in their human counterpart.
Thus the resemblance to human beings, even if it were not too perfect, would basically cause empathy.
