Im zweiten Arbeitsmodul wird unter Verwendung des ITNI-Verfahrens (Integrated Total Nitrogen Input) der gesamte atmosphärische Stickstoffeintrag in ein geschlossenes Modellökosystem bestehend aus N-freiem Quarzsand und 15N-markierten Pflanzen sowie einer zum Pflanzenwachstum benötigten Nährlösung bestimmt.
Der N-Eintrag aus der Atmosphäre in das Modellsystem wird über die Verdünnung des bekannten 15N-Pools für die Bereiche Pflanze, Boden und Nährlösung errechnet.

The major objective of working package (2) is the determination of the total atmospheric nitrogen input (ITNI approach) into a closed model ecosystem consisting of N-free quartz sand, 15N-labeled grass species and a nutrient solution allowing for adequate plant growth.
The N input from the atmosphere into the system is calculated by the dilution of the 15N-pool for each of the categories plant, soil and nutrient solution.
