Shortly after I read his book The Fall of Public Man, which brought him worldwide fame, in 1986, my first major exhibition premiered at the Kunsthalle Bern.
We sent the catalogue Unbewusste Orte (Unconscious Places) to his New York address and he reacted with enthusiasm and accepted an invitation to the next stop at Portikus in Frankfurt, where we did a seminar together with Kasper König at the Städelschule.We have been friends ever since.
Recently, when the issue of who could write an essay in the current new edition of my architecture photographs came up, he expressed interest and so I am happy that we have come full circle.

Den damaligen Katalog Unbewusste Orte schickten wir ihm an seine New Yorker Adresse, woraufhin er begeistert reagierte und eine Einladung zur nächsten Station im Frankfurter Portikus annahm, wo wir mit Kasper König zusammen an der Städelschule ein Seminar gemacht haben – seitdem sind wir Freunde.
Als es vor Kurzem darum ging, wer nun einen Essay in der aktuellen Neuauflage meiner Architekturbilder schreiben könnte, bekundete er Interesse und so freue ich mich, dass sich der Kreis schließt.
