Vincent Kenis and Marc Hollander, both musicians and producers, operate the Crammed Discs label.
The forerunner of this venture was their duet, Aksak Maboul, to whom we are indebted for musical discoveries like Congotronics, Bebel Gilberto, and others.

Vincent Kenis, selber Musiker und Produzent beim Label Crammed Discs, hörte zufällig eine Aufnahme vom prominentesten Ensemble, Konono No. 1, im Radio – und war seitdem von der Idee besessen, die Musiker im Kongo aufzutreiben.
Jahrelang suchte er nach dem Vater der Stilrichtung, stieß dabei auf die Kasai Allstars, nahm unter abenteuerlichen Bedingungen auf mobilen Achtspurstudios erste Konzerte auf, traf schließlich auf die Meister selbst.

It was by chance that Vincent Kenis, himself a musician and a producer with the Crammed Discs label, heard a recording by the most prominent ensemble, Konono No.1 on the radio.Since then, he has been obsessed with the idea of finding the musicians in the Congo.
He spent years looking for the father of this style.
