Jede dieser 3.050 Tonnen schweren Maschinen hat einen maximalen Bohrdurchmesser von bis zu 9,58 m und wird mit einer Leistung von 3.500 kW angetrieben ( Drehmoment 8.500 kNm ).

Nachdem der Durchbruch des Teilstückes Bodio-Faido im Oktober 2006 erfolgte, mussten zwei Gripper-TBM zunächst generalrevidiert und ihre Bohrköpfe erweitert werden, bevor sie im Juni 2007 ihre Arbeit mit dem nächsten Teilstück ( Faido-Sedrun ) fortsetzen konnten.
Für die Konstruktion der Tunnelbohrmaschinen lieferte Dillinger Hütte GTS insgesamt 2.088 t Stahlgrobbleche der Güte S355J2G3 im Dickenbereich von 30 bis 200 mm.

After finishing the section Bodio-Faido in October 2006 two Gripper tunnel boring machines had to be generally overhauled and their drill heads had to be extended before they could continue their work in the next section ( Faido-Sedrun ).
For the construction of these tunnel boring machines Dillinger Hütte GTS delivered overall 2,088 t of heavy plate steel S355J2G3 with a thickness range of 30 to 200 mm.
