Das nigerianische Recht schreibt vor, dass auf eidesstattlichen Erklärungen von Personen, die nicht leseund schreibkundig oder des Englischen nicht hinreichend mächtig sind, ein sog.„Illiterate Jurat“ anzubringen ist.
Bei Errichtung der Urkunde wird in diesen Fällen ein vom Gericht berufener Dolmetscher hinzugezogen, der den o.g. Personen den Inhalt der Urkunde vermittelt.

According to Nigerian Law, affidavits deposed by persons who are illiterate or who are not in full command of the English language must be endorsed with a so called “Illiterate Jurat”.
In such cases, the court has to consult an official interpreter who will translate the content of the declaration to the illiterate declarant first.
