Es werden unterschiedliche Make-to-Order (kundenauftragsfertigende) Produktionssysteme mit einer oder mehreren Stufen und einer oder mehreren parallelen Anlagen je Stufe modelliert, wobei sich die Kapazitätsinvestition auf die Produktionsrate oder auf die Anzahl der parallelen Maschinen auswirkt.
Die Materialfreigabe erfolgt entweder über Planübergangszeiten an jeder Stufe oder über einen Vorgriffshorizont der die gesamte Fertigung berücksichtigt.
