Bei der lasermikrochirurgischen Resektion größerer Tumoren in Piecemeal-Technik ist es notwendig, die basale Abtragungsebene an den Operationspräparaten zu kennzeichnen, damit der Pathologe einen onkologisch aussagekräftigen Befund erstellen kann.
Die ursprünglich von Steiner und Ambrosch beschriebene Technik sieht die Markierung mit einem Kopierstift vor, die der Pathologe am geschrumpften, formalinfixierten Präparat dann nochmals erneuern muss.

Steiner and Ambrosch originally recommended marking by a pen, which has the disadvantage that it has to be renewed by the pathologist before further work-up of specimens.
