Südhof erhielt den Nobelpreis für Medizin gemeinsam den beiden Wissenschaftlern James Rothman und Randy Schekman.
Den drei Forschern gelang es zu erklären, wie Zellen es schaffen, den Molekülverkehr in ihrem Innern zu steuern, ohne dass es zu einem Chaos kommt.
