Der Europäische Stabilitätsmechanismus wird weltweit die größte internationale Finanzinstitution sein mit einer starken Eigenkapitalausstattung von 700 Milliarden EUR, von denen 80 Milliarden EUR bis Anfang 2014 eingezahlt werden, einschließlich der etwa 33 Milliarden EUR, die bis zum 12. Als ständiger Mechanismus wird der ESM die Aufgaben übernehmen , die derzeit die Europäische Finanzstabilisierungsfazilität ( EFSF ) und der Europäische Finanzstabilisierungsmechan... ( EFSM ) erfüllen .
Ursprünglich war dies für Juli 2013 vorgesehen, aber angesichts seines beschleunigten Inkrafttretens wird der ESM nun neben der Europäischen Finanzstabilisierungsfazilität (EFSF) tätig sein.

Die erste Auszahlung – in Höhe von 30 Mrd. EUR – wird von der EFSF vorfinanziert und in Reserve gehalten, damit sie im Notfall im spanischen Bankensektor eingesetzt werden kann, bevor die Ergebnisse der Stresstests bekannt sind.
