Die Zollbehörden können die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der europäischen Unternehmen fördern, indem sie die Arbeitsweisen modernisieren und harmonisieren ( z. B. durch den Einsatz systemgestützter Konzepte ) und ein papierloses Zollumfeld schaffen ( Einführung des „ e-Zolls “ ).
In diesem Zusammenhang empfiehlt die Kommission den Zolldienststellen der EU einen proaktiven Umgang mit internationalen Standards wie denjenigen der Weltzollorganisation ( WZO ) und die Entwicklung neuer EU-Standards , die weltweit als Vorbild dienen könnten .
