The mining district of Faynan is of capital importance in the economy of the ancient Near East, and is one of the best preserved and most thoroughly researched sites of early mining and smelting in the Levant.

Darüber hinaus ist das 420 Hektar große Gelände in das Netzwerk ChemCoast eingebunden, das den gesamten norddeutschen Raum überspannt.
