Besonders beunruhigend dabei ist , dass die EWU-Partner auf Gedeih und Verderb miteinander verbunden sind , dank eines Systems fixer Wechselkurse .
So erweist sich gerade für kleinere Staaten der Euro in der Krise als ein Zwangskorsett, das es ihnen verwehrt, den Leitzins bedürfnisgerecht anzupassen oder zur Ankurbelung der heimischen Wirtschaft die eigene Währung abzuwerten.

What is especially alarming in this connection is the fact that the EMU partners are inextricably entwined for better or worse, thanks to a system of fixed parities.
For smaller countries, the euro is thus proving to be a straitjacket in the current crisis; it is preventing them from adjusting their base rates to suit their needs or devaluing their own currencies to stimulate their domestic economies.
